North F18 Sails
The North F18 sails have been developed from the successful work carried out in the Tornado class over the past years. The mould shape from the Tornado has beenimported into the F18, luff curves altered for the individual F18 manufacturers’ mast bends, and then sized to fit the F18 model. Careful attention has been paid to the finishing of the various classes requirements. The individual manufacturer sails have then been carefully tested. Main, jib and spinnaker are designed using the “North Sails’ proprietary Spiral design software, used on everything from the winning Optimist and Olympic classes to VX40s and America’s Cup sails.” Sails have been designed and tested for the Hobie Tiger, Nacra Infusion, Cirrus and Diam. Sails are available for all the F18 manufacturers.
Mainsail
The mainsail is a radial design made from Appen 12 - 1.5mil. The radial design gives an efficient panel layout resulting in a smooth stable sail that can gradually be depowered up the wind range. The cloth has been chosen for durability and stability.
Battens
Batten sets have been developed with Fibre Foam to get the best out of the mainsail. There are a variety of head battens to help either power up or depower the main.
Jib
The jib is fully battened taking into account the new class rules. It is a radial design made from Appen 12 – 1.5mil Careful attention to jib sheeting height will ensure that you get the best from this sail across the range of conditions.
Spinnaker
The spinnaker has proven to be extremely fast straight from the first design, which is a reflection of the top North designers and software. The spinnaker is radial design made from Dynakote 0.75. North helped to develop this new version of the popular silicon coated cloth. The silicon coating sheds water, helps gybe the spinnaker and is ideal for chutes.
